How To Use Shutterbite

This is a guide that will walk you through all of the features within the Shutterbite App. This guide will consistently be updated so if you have suggestions for something that may need to be mentioned please send a message to info@shutterbite.com.

Meal Tracking

Once you get signed up and logged into Shutterbite you will be taken to the home page. Click on the Start Eating button that is on every main page to start tracking your meal.

Before You Eat

The first thing you will see after clicking on Start Eating is the “Before You Eat” page. This page is meant to track all of the details you can get before you start eating such as what you are eating, why you are eating, and what your hunger is before eating. You can also take extra notes and list anything you want before you eat.

In order to move on to the next pages you need to either write down what you are eating or add a picture of your meal.

Adding in any other detail for your meal is considered optionally so you can just track a meal just by saving the name or just by taking a picture. Further along in the page there are options to track why you eat and how fungry/full you are before you eat. Click on the question mark next to “How Hungry/Full Are You?” to get more details about each hunger level.

If you are already done eating and don't need to track your eating timer you can press the "Done Eating" button. This will take you to the “After You Eat” page.

While You Eat

The next page is designed to keep track of how long you eat. There is nothing on this screen except a timer so you can focus on what you are eating. The timer will keep running even if you open another app or put your phone to sleep. The timer will stop if you close the app or turn off your phone so try not to do that before saving your meal. Once you are done eating click on the "Finish Eating" button

If you want to pause the timer there is a pause button in the middle of the screen. When you want to resume the timer just hit the play button whenever you are ready.

After You Eat

The next page is designed to keep track of all of the mindful details after you finished eating such as how you feel, hunger levels, and any extra notes or pictures you want to take.

Once you are done eating click on the “Save Meal” button to save your meal permanently. Only data that you save the first time around will show up in your statistics so try to enter as much data as you can before you save.

Viewing, Deleting, and Editing Meals

Viewing Meals

Meals that you save will appear in the journal page. Meals will be arranged in chronological order and you can view a quick summary of your meals that will show when you ate the meal, the time between this meal and your previous meal, the name of the meal, and any notes that you took before you ate.

To view more of the meals that you tracked at once you can use the gallery view. This will let you quickly scroll through all of the meals that you’ve ever tracked.

Editing Meals

From the journal page or the home page just click on the icon of the meal to get taken to the “Meal Summary” page. Here you will be able to edit any details of the meal that you previously tracked. Please be aware that any edit will not change your stats but that will be changed sometime in a future update.

When you are done editing click on the save meal button on the bottom of the screen.

Deleting Meals

An option to delete meals will be available at the bottom of the screen. Meals that are deleted will be gone forever. Please be aware that deleting meals will not change your total meal stats but this will be changed in a future update.

Mindful Eating Programs

Mindful Eating Programs are designed to help users turn mindful eating concepts into sustainable long term habits. Programs are a series of "Routines" that you consistently have to complete within 2 days to progress. Each program lasts for 30 days.  You can find the options for programs on the home page. Touch the section highlighted in red in the picture to get to the Mindful Eating Programs page.

How To Change Programs

To change your program simply click on the empty box on the left side of the screen and confirm your selection.

How Programs Work

Programs dictate what routine you will have to do for your next meal. Routines will be shown in the mindful eating section of the home page. Routines can be assigned to be completed before you eat, while you eat, and/or after you eat. It is important that you check what the routine is on the homepage as you start your day so you know what your routines will be for the day.

How to Complete a Routine

If you have a routine to complete for the day an indicator for your routine will appear at the top of either the Before You Eat Page, While You Eat Page, or After You Eat Page. To mark a routine as complete, tap the green checkmark.

Progress Through Programs

To move on to the next day's routine you need to complete the routine for the current day. The new routines will then appear automatically on the next day the next time you open the app. You only need to complete the routine once on a meal that you track for that day to move on to the next day.

Resetting Streaks

Streaks will automatically reset after two days. Once two days have passed without the routine being completed, all the progress made on the program will reset. If you don't want the program to reset after two days then you can switch to another program and your progress will remain.
